Bees have a phenomenal odor perception. They can be trained within minutes using Pavlov ̕ s reflex to target a specific odor. BEE ̕ S explores how we might co-habit with natural biological systems and use their potential to increase our perceptive abilities. The aim of this project is to develop collaborative relations between scientific and technological research, beekeepers and design, among others, translating the outcome into systems and objects that people can understand and use, engendering significant adjustments. The object depicted provides a diagnosis using bees to detect general health through breath.

Through an interdisciplinary lens that brings together engineering, art, cognitive science, and healthcare, I explore the anthropomorphic nature of hybrid physical/digital objects and their promise to be catalysts towards unforeseen discoveries. I design objects to offer anima and perspective: from the haptic jacket that an autistic patient wears to express to the doctor what it means to be sensory defensive, to the electromagnetic field detector bracelet that transforms invisible information into visible data for a feeling of empowerment, or an environment where instead of you taking care of your avatar in massive online games, your avatar turns around and takes care of your biological needs.

Christien Meindertsma explores the life of products and raw materials. For her first book, Checked Baggage (2004), Christien purchased a container filled with a week's worth of objects confiscated at security checkpoints in Schiphol Airport after 9/11. She meticulously categorized all 3267 items and photographed them on a white seamless background. Christien’s second book, PIG 05049 (2007), is an extensive collection of photographic images that documents an astounding array of products that different parts of an anonymous pig called 05049 could support. With this book, Christien reveals lines that link raw materials with producers, products and consumers that have become so invisible in an increasingly globalized world.

The course represents the natural evolution of a series of training and research initiatives developed in Domus Academy since 1983 on theme of technological innovation and on the design of intangible relations with interactive objects and services. It is part of a permanent laboratory on the themes of digital information with the culture of design at its centre, intended as knowledge of the changing world and as a way of learning by designing.

With acclaimed international reputation as an artist, the Finnish-born Laura Beloff's artistic works can be described as peculiar wearable objects, programmed structures and participatory, networked installations. In her pieces she combines technology fluently with various mediums ranging from video to textile, from sound to sculptural and organic materials. Many of her works deal with individuals in the global society trying to adapt to highly complex technologically enhanced world, which is becoming increasingly mobile. Collaboration with other artists, musicians and computer scientists has been one of the features typical for her working methods.

LoVid is an interdisciplinary artist duo composed of Tali Hinkis and Kyle Lapidus. Our work includes live video installations, sculptures, digital prints, patchworks, media projects, performances, and video recordings. We combine many opposing elements in our work, contrasting hard electronics with soft patchworks, analog and digital, or handmade and machine produced objects. This multidirectional approach is also reflected in the content of our work: romantic and aggressive, wireless and wire-full. We are interested in the ways in which the human body and mind observe, process, and respond to both natural and technological environments, and in the preservation of data, signals, and memory.

Mouna Andraos an R&D OpenLab Fellow, is an interaction designer in various media including web, mobile, electronics and wearables, while applying ideas of softness, intimacy and uniqueness to the electronic spaces and objects that are increasingly inhabiting our personal environments. Her work for a Montreal-based interactive production studio has won recognition ranging from a Best of Show & Best of Art at the South by South West web awards to a cyberLion in Cannes. She recently completed her master's degree at the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP), Tisch School of the Arts, New York University.

-Amanda Parkes' Piezing generates power using the natural gestures of the human body in motion. Around the joints of the elbows and hips of the garment is piezoelectric material that generates electricity in response to applied mechanical stress. The electricity is then stored as voltage in a centralized small battery and later can be discharged for use. - Muk Lux Flux boots change shape depending on the speed and motion of the wearer.

Skin: Surface, Substance, and Design presents products, furniture, fashion, architecture, and media that are expanding the limits of what we understand as surface. Reflecting the convergence of natural and artificial life, this provocative and stimulating book shows how enhanced and simulated skins appear everywhere in our contemporary world. Digitalisation, the quiet infi ltration of artifi cial intelligence into everyday objects and our environment is one of the most substantial changes which appears to be quite natural. Things become smart ñ smart home, smart door, smart toothbrushÖ This smartness is generally perceived as the ability of objects to evaluate the environment and what is going on there realistically and to guide processes, if need arises ñ be it textile which responds to our body heat and adjusts its structure accordingly, or an airport concourse which delicately and personallyguides us to the right place according to the ticket in our pocket.

-Wifi jacket: While I was orignally working with basic light stripes, I ultimately decided to integrate them with a flower motif. This design choice was made to recount the age old story of borrowing from the environment to decorate garments - think floral and animal print patterns. Since Wi-Fi is so prevalent in the environment now, I thought it would be interesting to integrate this representation of a man-made part of our environment into a garment in that same way. In the end design, flowers referencing our natural environment are juxtaposed with technology from the synthetic environment. -'Intimate Controllers' is a platform where video games are played by couples touching each other. The platform consists of two controllers, a bra for the female player and boxer shorts for the male player. Each controller is embedded with 6 sensors placed with varying degrees of intimacy in relation to the body part with which they correspond. Players must pass game levels together and in doing so, game play results in increasingly intimate positioning. The goal of this project was to research and create objects that challenge the traditional notions and orientation of video game play.
